From Boda Rider to Homeowner: How SafeBoda Helped Me Build My House

My name is Samuel Ssekubulwa Gombe (SB4958), and I have been a SafeBoda driver for several years.

Like many riders, I joined the platform to earn a living, support my family, and improve my future. What I never imagined was that one day, my work on the road would help me build a home of my own.

My journey began with a simple message on the SafeBoda App introducing drivers to the Twezimbe Ne Land Loans campaign, a partnership between SafeBoda and Housing Finance Bank. At first, I was curious but also cautious. Opportunities that sound this good often seem out of reach for people working in the sector like mine.

I decided to visit the SafeBoda Academy to learn more.

There, I was guided through the process and learned that eligibility was based on my activity on the platform. Drivers only needed to have been active for at least six months and maintain a consistent trip record. What impressed me most was that my SafeBoda wallet history could serve as proof of income. For many self-employed people, accessing formal financial services can be difficult because traditional banking systems often require documents we do not readily have. SafeBoda had found a way to bridge that gap.

After reviewing my account history, SafeBoda provided me with a recommendation letter to Housing Finance Bank. I completed the application process, and within a short period, my loan was approved and disbursed.

With that support, I was able to continue and complete the construction of my home.

For me, this was more than a loan. It was proof that the work I do every day has the power to create long-term security for my family. Owning a home is something many people dream about for years. Through this partnership, that dream became a reality for me.

What stands out is that this initiative is not only about housing. It reflects a broader commitment by SafeBoda to improve the well-being of its driver community. Through its partnership with Housing Finance Bank, drivers can access land loans, housing loans, and even vehicle financing opportunities that support career growth and economic empowerment.

These are opportunities that many drivers would previously have considered inaccessible.

Today, whenever fellow riders ask me about the programme, I share my experience openly. I tell them that the partnership is real. The process is straightforward. Most importantly, it is designed with drivers in mind.

SafeBoda has created more than a platform for earning daily income. It has opened pathways for drivers to build assets, invest in their future, and create stability for their families. I am living proof of that.

My home stands as a reminder that sometimes the journey is about much more than getting passengers from one destination to another. Sometimes, the journey leads to achieving dreams you never thought possible.

I encourage every eligible driver to learn more about these opportunities and take advantage of them. The road to financial growth begins with a single step, and for me, that step started with a message from SafeBoda.
